Abstract

How do you build a digital electronic instrument? What are the components of a synthesizer? How is electricity connected to sound? What music might accompany a space story? Can we create a soundtrack for a film without knowing music? With the help of littleBits and following the principles of the interdisciplinary STEAM model, we will build our own original electronic musical instruments using circuits without wires and compose our own music for an animation. Through play and experimentation, we will discover how our musical and technological worlds can be combined creatively and develop our computational thinking and musical skills.

Abstract

Music with wires, circuits, computers and… fruit! Now apples, oranges and bananas can play music! What might they sound like? In this programme, designed according to the interdisciplinary STEAM model, children will build their own musical instruments, experiment with musical sounds and form a digital fruit orchestra. Do not forget to bring your fruit!

Do coins have a sound? Can they play music? Rhythms? Melodies? How are wires connected to coins and music? Following the principles of the interdisciplinary STEAM model, we will build our own original musical instruments and create a remix! Through play and experimentation, we will discover the secrets of coins and combine the musical and technological worlds so that we can become the next DJs!

Abstract

Can an apple make sounds? If so… what might it sound like? What music can come from a banana? Can we play drums with water? What would a piano made from coins be like? If you are looking for answers, come and build your own original musical instruments with fruit, wires, computers, modelling clay, coins, aluminium foil, drawings and anything else we can imagine! And that is not all: we will then create our own original music for a film and travel into space!

Abstract

Can you help the musical alien find its robots and return to its planet? What would you do if you were the only one who could save the helpless little fish from the hungry musical jellyfish? Can you play the secret Native American rhythms and become a member of the Apache tribe? During the workshop, we will work in groups and play three online games designed and developed by Yannis Mygdanis specifically for preparation for music secondary school entrance examinations, hosted on the Greek Society for Music Education website. The workshop is intended for children aged 10 and 11, with no requirement to take an entrance examination for a music school.
