Sonic Pi and Creative Coding in Music Education

On 19 December 2021, an online workshop is organised by the LifeLong Music Engagement Research Unit of SoScieAtH at European University Cyprus, focusing on creative coding in music education. The session is designed for participants without required prior programming experience and approaches code as a medium for musical expression and experimentation.

The workshop “Music Education Activities with the Sonic Pi Creative Coding Language” connects basic programming commands and structures with musical concepts including pulse, rhythmic and melodic patterns, repetition, variation, timbre and form. Participants create musical sequences, combine synthesised sounds and samples, and experiment with live changes to code.
