Eighteenth-Century Piano Pedagogy at the 12th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference

The 12th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference takes place online from 27 to 29 November 2020, involving the Hellenic Musicological Society and university Departments of Music and Musicology in Greece. The conference spans different areas of musicological research and includes historical, theoretical and pedagogical contributions.

On 27 November 2020, Yannis Mygdanis and I. Lerch-Kalavrytinou present “Piano Pedagogy in the Late Eighteenth Century through J. C. Bach and F. P. Ricci’s Méthode ou Recueil de connaissances élémentaires pour le forte-piano ou clavecin.” The study critically analyses the instructional material, examines principles and practices of instrumental pedagogy in the period, and investigates questions of authenticity arising from different historical editions of the method.
