Digital & Media Literacy - Virtual reality (VR) & Augmented reality (AR)
The world is changing rapidly, and future skills will differ from those familiar today. Looking towards 2050, Future Skills Academy—an educational initiative of Pierce – The American College of Greece in collaboration with the National Hellenic Research Foundation—develops the skills of students aged 12–14. The Academy offers a holistic education in genetics, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity and virtual & augmented reality.
In the final module, “Digital & Media Literacy – Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR)”, students explore digital communication media, VR and AR. They encounter the basic concepts, tools and software for creating VR and AR content and discover their applications in education, training, entertainment and healthcare.
Students also need to navigate the internet safely and assess the reliability of a vast range of texts, forming informed opinions by comparing multiple sources. Through expert presentations, projects, debates, visits and virtual tours of media, cybersecurity and VR/AR companies, this module develops a comprehensive understanding of the digital and media world. It emphasises critical thinking, content creation, digital footprint management, cybersecurity and innovative uses of VR and AR.
Immersive technologies (VR, AR, MR & XR)
Presentations, theory & practical material from the sessions
At the final stop on the Future Skills Academy journey, you will enter the exciting world of VR and AR. Discover how these technologies work, where they are used and how you can create content with them. Projects, discussions and practical experiences explore how the digital world affects everyday life.

VR & AR Applications
Applications designed for Future Skills Academy
Anaglyph3DApp transforms ordinary images or camera snapshots into three-dimensional anaglyph views. Use sliders to adjust the 3D effect and experiment with depth. Classic red-blue 3D glasses reveal the depth of the image. Save the result for a simple, creative experience of making and viewing 3D images.
StereoscopicMakerApp helps users create stereoscopic images. Choose or take a photograph, adjust effects with sliders and view the result on a stereoscopic device or a compatible mobile phone. The application provides an immersive experience focused on composition and three-dimensional perception, with the option to save the final image for later use.
HologramPyramidApp transforms ordinary images into views suitable for a hologram pyramid. Choose images from your device, adjust their size, brightness and rotation, and save the result locally. Four symmetrical views, displayed on a phone with a hologram pyramid, create the illusion of a floating 3D object: a creative way to explore three-dimensional imagery.
WiggleStereoscopicApp transforms a single image into a moving wiggle-3D view, creating an illusion of depth. It shifts an image slightly backwards and forwards or from side to side. Sliders control movement intensity and speed. Save the result as an animated GIF and experiment with depth perception without specialised equipment.
