On 14 March 2025, the second online seminar in Cycle II of the Early-Career Researchers Seminars at NKUA takes place. The series is organised by the Music Education Laboratory and the Music, Cognitive Sciences and Community Laboratory, in collaboration with the MA programme “Music Education in Formal and Informal Contexts,” and focuses on contemporary research approaches and methodological issues.
The seminar presents Design-Based Research as an approach that connects the research process with the development and improvement of educational interventions. It examines successive cycles of design, implementation, observation, evaluation, and redesign, as well as their use in authentic music teaching and learning environments. Research knowledge and educational practice therefore develop in parallel.
Particular emphasis is placed on collaboration between the researcher and the educational setting, since design decisions are revised in response to evidence from actual implementation. The approach is especially relevant to music education, where creative activity, interaction and the specific learning environment substantially shape the development of an intervention.
