The study Music Teachers’ Attitudes and Perceptions of the Pedagogical Value and Implementation of STEAM Practices in Music Teaching and Learning, co-authored with F. Mouratidou, was published in Volume C of the Proceedings of the 11th International Conference “Education and Culture in the 21st Century” by EKEDISY. STEAM is examined through music teachers’ perceptions, familiarity and actual working conditions.
The mixed-methods study involved 55 practising music teachers from primary, secondary and conservatoire education. Results indicate low-to-moderate familiarity with STEAM, strong recognition of its pedagogical potential and a high intention to use it in future practice. Professional development, available resources, teaching time and a collaborative school culture emerge as important conditions for more systematic implementation. Teachers associate STEAM with creativity, experiential learning, transdisciplinary collaboration, digital tools and experimentation with sound. The study also shows that positive attitudes toward STEAM are not sufficient by themselves, since meaningful implementation depends substantially on institutional, material and organisational support within the educational environment.
