The first concert in the series “100 Works by Contemporary Greek Composers” takes place on 19 October 2024 and opens a sequence of presentations devoted to new works in contemporary Greek composition. The programme includes pieces for different instrumental combinations.
Three works receive their first performance: Lycóphos for flute, Diálogos for violin and flute, and Anamníseis for violin and cello. The works represent three different approaches to writing for a solo instrument and small chamber-music combinations.
The three compositions develop different relationships between solo writing and chamber music. Flute appears alone in Lycóphos, while Diálogos and Anamníseis organise the music through interaction between two instruments. The first performances allow these contrasting ideas to take on live form, be tested under actual concert conditions and enter a broader context of new Greek repertoire. The changing distribution of musical roles also reveals different balances of texture, counterpoint and instrumental dialogue within the three works.
