The second concert in the series “100 Works by Contemporary Greek Composers” takes place on 3 November 2024 at the Mousiki Praxi Conservatoire in Athens and includes new works by contemporary Greek composers.
The programme features the first performance of “Sad Evening,” a setting of poetry by L. Porfyras for mixed four-part choir and piano. The work is presented alongside other new compositions in the series, connecting contemporary choral creation with the setting of Greek poetry.
Mixed four-part choir and piano create a setting in which poetic language moves from individual reading to collective vocal expression. The first performance allows the work to be tested as a live choral experience and to acquire its first public interpretative form. Its inclusion alongside other newly written compositions also connects the setting of poetry with the broader field of contemporary Greek musical creation. Choral writing also foregrounds collective delivery of the text and its relationship with the piano’s harmonic support.
