On 24 May 2024, Cycle I of the Early-Career Researchers Seminars at NKUA concludes with a session devoted to artificial intelligence and its possible uses in the research process. The series addresses different aspects of methodology and academic practice.
The seminar “Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Research: New Possibilities, New Challenges” examines the use of AI tools at different stages of research. Particular emphasis is placed on reliability, ethics, scholarly documentation, source verification and critical evaluation of generated outputs, so that their use can be integrated into academic practice with methodological consistency.
The seminar distinguishes situations in which AI tools can support searching, organising and processing information from those that require especially rigorous human verification. Artificial intelligence is approached as an assistive resource rather than an authority, with the researcher retaining responsibility for documentation, interpretation and ethical use of data. The seminar also presents practices for formulating appropriate questions and cross-checking AI-supported outputs against primary or authoritative academic sources.
