The 30th European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) Conference and the 9th ISME European Regional Conference take place in Lyon from 24 to 27 May 2023 under the theme Liberty, Equity, Creativity: Innovating and Inventing Music in the Classroom. The event focuses on creativity, equity and innovation in music education.
The study on the teaching intervention Little Music Makers & Producers presents the implementation of technology-and-music scenarios in a Greek primary school. Students use digital tools to create and produce musical material, taking an active role in different stages of the creative process.
The study connects creativity with agency and with children’s ability to shape the musical outcome rather than work only with predetermined material. Music production becomes a space for experimentation in which students can test, compare and revise ideas collaboratively. Attention is therefore focused on the creative process and on the decisions through which musical work develops. The proposal therefore treats creativity as a process of exploration, revision and decision-making rather than only as the production of a final musical product.
