The 9th GSME Conference takes place online from 15 to 17 April 2022 under the theme “Music Education in a Changing World: Identities, Values, Experiences”. The programme includes presentations on contemporary issues in music education and the use of digital tools in teaching and learning.
The presentation “Criteria for Selecting Educational Software in Music Teaching-Learning Processes” organises key dimensions for evaluating and selecting digital applications according to technological, pedagogical and musical characteristics. Usability and suitability in relation to the aims of each musical activity are also considered.
The proposed framework treats software selection not as a comparison of technical features but as a pedagogical decision shaped by content, learning aims and how a tool will be used. It considers whether software supports meaningful musical activity, appropriate feedback and varied forms of participation. The framework therefore offers educators a more systematic basis for informed selection. The framework is intended to support professional judgement rather than prescribe a single set of preferred applications or technologies.
