The 1st Summer Meeting of the Greek Society for Music Education takes place from 26 to 28 August 2024 at the Music School of Kalamata and is devoted to musical improvisation as a field of expression, creation and educational experience. The programme includes experiential workshops and musical activities approaching improvisation from different pedagogical and artistic perspectives.
In the workshop “Improvisation, Experimentation, Innovation: Digital Explorations in Musical Creativity,” digital media are used for improvisation, sonic experimentation and the development of musical ideas. Participants explore different ways of interacting with sound and practices that can be adapted to different ages and music-learning environments.
Activities allow participants to move between individual and collective improvisation and to consider how digital tools can alter listening and response. Technology is used to create new prompts and constraints that stimulate musical imagination. Live interaction and immediate musical decision-making remain central throughout the workshop. The workshop considers how digital constraints or prompts can encourage unexpected musical responses while maintaining the social and embodied character of improvisation.
