The 7th EEMAPE–ASPETE Scientific Conference takes place in Athens on 28–29 January 2020 and focuses on the design of teaching, professional development and continuing education for teachers.

The paper “Designing the Development Axes of Professional-Development Programmes for Teachers of the ‘Theory of Music’ Course” focuses on the particular needs of conservatoire education and outlines key areas for continuing professional development in Music Theory.

The study treats professional development as an ongoing need rather than an isolated form of updating, taking into account the specific conditions of conservatoire education and the demands of music-theory teaching. The proposed areas address musical and pedagogical knowledge, methodology, assessment and the use of contemporary tools. The aim is a professional-development framework connected with the actual needs of everyday teaching practice. The proposal seeks to create a shared frame of reference for teachers with different levels of experience and to support more reflective and contemporary teaching practices.
