Online experiential workshop

The online experiential workshop “From Inspiration to the Classroom – From Preparation to Action” takes place on 23 November 2024, organised by the Music Education Laboratory of NKUA and CCE-NKUA / GO ARTS. The event includes practical workshops led by practising music teachers, with a focus on designing and preparing material for classroom use.

The contribution is the workshop “Practical Approaches to Creating Educational Backing Tracks and Play-Along Videos for Music Lessons.” It presents ways of creating backing tracks and play-along videos and using them for listening, practice, and individual or group performance. Particular attention is given to adapting digital material to students’ level, repertoire, and specific learning needs.

Creating the material is treated as a pedagogical process requiring decisions about tempo, key, duration, instrumentation and level of difficulty. Backing tracks and play-along videos can therefore support different stages of practice, from initial familiarisation to performance within a stable reference framework. The workshop considers how such material can be adapted without restricting musical flexibility and expression.
