The 3rd Panhellenic Conference “Educational Games and Art in Education and Culture” takes place in Athens on 5–6 November 2022 and includes presentations and workshops on play and the arts in different educational settings.
Y. Mygdanis and R. Saltari present the paper “Using Video Games in Music Teaching-Learning Processes.” Video games are used both as a source of musical material and as an interactive environment for activities involving listening, performance, creation and discussion in the music classroom.
The approach uses students’ familiarity with video games to move attention from simple use toward conscious listening and analysis of how music functions within them. The creative dimension also allows learners to make decisions about sound, atmosphere and the relationship between music and action. Video games therefore become a starting point for critical and creative music learning. The approach also seeks to bridge children’s out-of-school digital experiences with more systematic processes of musical observation, interpretation and creation.
