On 14 November 2020, Kroustofono hosts an online seminar on the use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) for music creation and production in distance-learning settings.
Multitrack recording, audio editing, virtual instruments, samples and basic mixing techniques are presented through applications for music teaching. Central elements include sharing musical material, feedback and collaborative creation in synchronous and asynchronous environments.
Digital audio workstations allow students to work on shared musical material even when they are not in the same physical space. Files can be exchanged, commented on and revised in sequence, creating an asynchronous form of collaborative production. The process connects recording and mixing techniques with musical decisions about form, instrumentation and expressive organisation. Saving successive versions of the same project also makes progress and musical decision-making visible, supporting reflective discussion and formative assessment. This also allows teachers and students to compare alternatives and discuss how revisions affect the musical outcome over time.
