The article Pierce XRLab: A two-year spiral curriculum for extended reality in middle school was published in the Global Academic and Scientific Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies (GASJMS). The paper presents the structure of Pierce XRLab as a two-year spiral extended-reality (XR) curriculum for Grades 8–9, organised into 16 units.
The curriculum develops across embodied engagement, representation and illusion, culture and identity, and the design, critique and ethics of XR experiences. Assessment is based on Experience Logs, Critical Briefs and Design Artifacts, while alternative technology options and safety routines are included so that the programme can remain workable across different school conditions. Its spiral organisation allows the same core ideas to be revisited from increasingly complex perspectives, gradually connecting technological familiarity with questions of representation, credibility and responsibility. Particular attention is given to the feasibility of implementation with limited equipment, ensuring that the design remains practical, transferable and suitable for classrooms where devices must be shared among students.
