The chapter Educational technology as a pathway to foster inclusion and equity in music education was published by IGI Global in the Handbook of Research on Advancing Equity and Inclusion Through Educational Technology. The chapter examines educational technology through the lenses of access, participation and equity in music education.
The discussion focuses on how digital and assistive media can broaden opportunities for musical expression among learners with different needs and experiences. Inclusion is treated as a criterion for designing the learning environment, with particular attention to the pedagogical conditions that determine who can participate, in what ways and with what degree of agency. The chapter also argues that technology can reduce barriers only when it is accompanied by appropriate pedagogical design, flexible forms of participation and meaningful choices for learners. Equity is therefore connected with the organisation of the entire learning environment and with whether different technological possibilities are translated into substantive musical action rather than merely technical access.
