The Athens Inclusive Education Project takes place on 28 September 2024 at The American College of Greece, in collaboration with George Mason University and the American Community Schools of Athens. The professional-development initiative focuses on inclusive education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the creation of learning experiences that allow different forms of participation.
The pilot intervention Little Music DIY Orchestras, implemented in music lessons at Pierce – The American College of Greece, is presented. The intervention combines digital and conventional musical instruments with creative making, giving students different opportunities for performance, interaction and collaborative music creation within the same learning environment.
The intervention emphasises students’ ability to choose among different media and roles so that participation does not depend on a single mode of control or performance. Creative making functions as a bridge between technology and collaborative music-making, while Universal Design for Learning is used as a principle for organising the learning environment as a whole.
