The Athens Urban Picnic 2024 takes place on 1 May at Plato’s Academy Park, with activities for children and families connecting play, creativity and ecology. Among them is a workshop combining music, digital technology and everyday materials.
The workshop “Fruit Makes Music!”, designed and delivered by Y. Mygdanis and E. Perakaki, runs in three consecutive sessions. Fruit, cables, electronic boards, aluminium foil, pencils and recyclable objects are used for the construction of digital musical instruments and experimentation with sound. Children transform everyday objects into active elements of a musical interface and use them creatively.
The activity turns exploration of materials into a starting point for musical improvisation and collaborative creation. Children observe how different objects can function as elements of an interface, test alternative connections and hear the consequences of their choices immediately. Connecting recyclable and everyday materials with digital sound creates an environment where technology, ecology and music meet through play.
