The 36th World Conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) takes place in Helsinki from 28 July to 2 August 2024 under the central theme Advocacy for Sustainability in Music Education. The conference brings together researchers and educators from around the world and presents contemporary directions in music teaching, learning and research.
Two research papers are presented. The first, in collaboration with S. Chrysostomou, examines Music Education 4.0 and the relationship of immersive technologies and artificial intelligence to primary music education. The second, in collaboration with C. Charalambidou, focuses on Synth4Kids and the design of educational scenarios for preschool children. Together, the two papers highlight different aspects of integrating emerging technologies into music learning.
Although the two studies address different age groups and different levels of technological integration, both emphasise creation, interaction and pedagogical design. Their presentation within the same conference allows technology to be considered across a continuum from broader school music education to a more specific early-childhood application.
