In May 2024, the student film “Iliou Elpida…” by the Film Club of Pierce – The American College of Greece is awarded at the 14th International Student Short Film Competition “Cinema… Did You Read?”. The film is created collaboratively by students and approaches the theme of war through a child’s perspective.
The production receives the Music Award, with original music by Yannis Mygdanis. Direction and editing are by P. Kostis, while the screenplay is developed by the students. The music is composed specifically for the film and is integrated into the production’s overall audiovisual narrative.
The distinction concerns the function of the original score within the film as a whole and its contribution to the narrative shaped by the students. Composition develops under real audiovisual-production conditions and is linked with decisions about pacing, dramaturgy and the relationship between sound and image. Working with the student film group therefore turns the music from an independent composition into an integral element of a collectively developed work.
