The workshop “Sounds & Blips” takes place at the MUSIX Lab of the Athens Concert Hall from 5 November to 3 December 2023 and is designed for children aged 7–11. The activity brings musical sound together with basic ideas of electricity and electronic circuits through making and experimentation.
Designed and facilitated by E. Perakaki and Y. Mygdanis, the workshop uses littleBits and other materials to help children create electronic musical instruments and explore different ways of producing sound. The constructions are then used in musical activities, while part of the workshop also connects sound with moving image.
The learning pathway begins with observing basic electronic connections and develops toward the construction of functional musical devices. Children experiment with how different connections change the sonic result and then use their constructions in structured musical activities. Connecting sound with moving image broadens the scope of the workshop and supports multimodal creation. The process encourages children to connect technical experimentation with musical purpose so that the construction becomes a tool for listening, performance and creation.
