The online experiential workshop “From Programming to Sound and from Code to Music: Practical Applications in the Music Lesson” takes place on 25 November 2023, organised by the Music Education Laboratory of the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It is aimed at educators and focuses on connecting programming with sound and music creation.

Using Scratch, participants create musical artefacts, small interactive applications and sound-based activities. Visual programming is used as a tool for musical experimentation and transferred into listening and creative activities that can be applied in the music classroom.

Activities organise basic programming concepts through musical problems and creative decisions so that code has an immediate audible consequence. Participants experiment with repetition, sequences, conditions and interaction and observe how changes in programming alter the musical result. The approach connects computational thinking with musical creation without requiring previous programming experience. The visual representation of commands makes alternative solutions easy to test and allows teachers to connect programming with activities suitable even for beginners.
