The scientific conference “50 Years of Greek Song 1974–2024: Sociological and Cultural Approaches” takes place on 26–27 November 2024 at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and examines the development of Greek song over the past fifty years. Its themes include creation, production, circulation, and listening, as well as the transformations brought about by digital media.
In collaboration with M. Kokkidou, the paper “Contemporary Digital Remix Culture in Greek Song” is presented. The study examines how existing musical material is reused, transformed, and recirculated in digital environments through contemporary production and distribution tools. It also considers the place of remix within new forms of music creation and participation in digital culture.
The analysis treats remix not only as a production technique but also as a cultural practice that renegotiates authorship, reference, memory and relationships with existing musical material. Digital circulation also broadens opportunities for participation, as listeners and creators can transform and reposition songs within new contexts.
