The 18th AAATE Conference – Technology for Inclusion and Participation for All takes place in Nicosia from 10 to 12 September 2025, focusing on assistive technologies, accessibility, and broader participation across different learning environments.
On 11 September 2025, a study is presented in collaboration with C. Charalambidou on the use of Synth4Kids in early childhood music education. The research is based on twelve weekly sessions with children aged 4–6 at Baby Maestro Cyprus and examines functions such as gaze control, motion tracking, and tangible interfaces. The study explores how alternative ways of interacting with a digital music environment can broaden access, participation, and opportunities for musical expression.
The study connects these features with principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), considering how multiple pathways for access can be embedded from the outset in a musical environment. Attention therefore shifts from adapting activities after a barrier appears toward designing more flexible and accessible forms of musical participation.
