The 33rd Conference of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) takes place in Vienna from 8 to 11 April 2026, with participation, diversity, democracy, and social cohesion as central themes in music education. The conference examines the role of music learning in creating more participatory and inclusive educational environments.
On 9 April 2026, a paper presents Music Education 4.0 as a holistic, human-centred, post-digital pedagogical framework. The model has been developed through a three-year Design-Based Research process and connects emerging and immersive technologies, artificial intelligence, and STREAM with creativity, inclusion, and active participation. Technology is treated not as an end in itself, but as part of a broader music-pedagogical design centred on the learner and on meaningful musical experience.
The discussion also considers how physical and digital experiences can be connected within a unified learning environment without distancing musical practice from embodiment, interaction and collaboration. Inclusion is approached as a design principle that shapes the selection of tools, activities and forms of participation.
