The 11th International Conference “Education and Culture in the 21st Century” takes place in Piraeus on 25–26 April 2026 and includes research and educational applications addressing contemporary approaches to learning, culture, and interdisciplinarity. Two studies in the programme examine creative and interdisciplinary practices in music education through the experiences and perceptions of music teachers.
The first study, in collaboration with D. Michail, investigates songwriting in primary music education, the practices used by teachers, and the challenges that limit its more systematic implementation. The second, in collaboration with F. Mouratidou, examines teachers’ perceptions of STEAM practices, their level of familiarity, and the conditions that affect implementation. Together, the two studies highlight different aspects of the relationship between creativity, interdisciplinarity, and everyday music-pedagogical practice.
A common feature of the two studies is that they examine not only the theoretical potential of these approaches but also the conditions required for systematic implementation by teachers. Creativity and transdisciplinarity are therefore connected with professional development, teaching time, available resources and everyday school practice.
