The online workshop “Designing STEAM Scenarios in Music Teaching-Learning: New Perspectives, New Challenges” takes place on 25 May 2022, organised by the LifeLong Music Engagement Research Unit of SoScieAtH at European University Cyprus. The workshop focuses on designing interdisciplinary music activities that connect music with science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.
Co-facilitated by Y. Mygdanis and M. Papazachariou-Christoforou, participants work with examples and develop their own STEAM music-pedagogical scenarios. The process is organised around clear musical objectives, technological media and experiential activities that can be adapted to different learning environments.
Each scenario begins with a clear musical question and then moves toward selecting appropriate technological and interdisciplinary elements. Participants consider relationships among activities, the final musical artefact and assessment of the learning process. Collaborative development of ideas supports revision of initial designs and the creation of more workable classroom proposals. The workshop also considers how constraints of time, equipment and learner experience can shape the final design and require practical adaptation.
