The paper Developing and Implementing a Novel Location-Aware Digital Music-Learning Object Inspired by Maria Callas was published in the Proceedings of the 15th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference of the Hellenic Musicological Society. The paper presents a location-aware web environment designed for Grade 4 students and connects opera, focused listening and movement through space.
The four-week educational scenario was evaluated through participant observation, focus groups and informal post-lesson discussions. Students showed strong interest and active participation and offered suggestions both for the application itself and for its integration into classroom activities. User location becomes part of the learning experience, as different musical and cultural materials are activated through movement and exploration. In this way, the study demonstrates how a historical and cultural theme can be connected with contemporary digital practices without losing emphasis on focused listening and musical understanding. It also links the design of the digital object with evidence from its actual use in an authentic music-classroom setting.
