The 15th Interdepartmental Musicology Conference takes place in Athens from 9 to 11 November 2023 and is dedicated to the centenary of Maria Callas’s birth. The programme includes presentations from different areas of musicology, music education and musical practice.

The study “Development and Application of Original Music-Education Software for Enhancing Listening Skills, with Maria Callas as a Point of Departure” introduces a digital music-listening environment. Material drawn from Callas’s voice and repertoire is used in structured activities designed to cultivate listening skills.

The application uses historical and performance material as a basis for structured auditory observation and comparison. Students are encouraged to focus on aspects of voice, interpretation and musical excerpts, connecting digital interaction with more attentive and evidence-based listening. The software therefore functions as an environment for guided musical inquiry. The approach shows how a figure from music history can support active listening and the design of contemporary digital educational material.
