The article Designing an musical educational software combining traditional music-pedagogical methods and emerging technologies: The case of Synth4Kids was published in AIRCC’s International Journal on Integrating Technology in Education. Synth4Kids is presented as educational software for children aged 5–8, designed to connect established music-pedagogical approaches with contemporary forms of digital and tangible interaction.
Its design combines elements from Dalcroze, Orff and Kodály with augmented reality, tangible interfaces and sensors, eye tracking, QR codes and collaborative online musical practices. The software is discussed as an environment for STEAM, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, play and authentic problem solving, with musical creation and expression remaining central to the design. The project seeks to translate principles from established pedagogical approaches into a digital environment without simply reproducing the appearance of traditional musical instruments on a screen. Synth4Kids is therefore presented as an example of software whose technological functions are organised from the outset around explicit music-education choices.
