The international Music and Eye-Tracking conference takes place on 7–8 July 2022, organised by the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in hybrid format. The programme includes research using eye-tracking technologies to study different forms of musical perception and interaction.
The poster “Implementing Eye-Tracking Practices in Music Teaching-Learning Processes” presents the use of eye-tracking in music teaching and learning. The work is connected with features of Synth4Kids and with data from teaching interventions involving children aged six to seven.
Eye tracking is presented as an alternative form of control and interaction within a digital musical environment, with potential use when conventional modes of manipulation are unsuitable or insufficient. Its implementation in Synth4Kids enables exploration of relationships among gaze, selection and sound production. Attention is directed both to accessibility and to the development of new forms of musical action. This technology is placed within a broader framework of multimodal interaction, where different forms of control can support different needs and learning pathways.
