The Music Coin DJs workshop takes place on 26 November 2023 at the MUSIX Lab of the Athens Concert Hall and is designed for children aged 7–10. Coins, cables and electronic circuits are used so that everyday objects can trigger and control digital sounds, rhythms and melodies.
Designed and facilitated by E. Perakaki and Y. Mygdanis, the workshop has children build music interfaces and use them in remix and DJ-based activities. The construction itself becomes a musical tool, bringing together experimentation with circuits, performance and creation.
Turning coins into controllers allows children to understand directly the relationship between physical action and the triggering of digital sound. The musical interfaces are used for rhythmic experiments, selecting sonic material and rearranging short musical excerpts. The activity connects making with performance and creates a playful context for exploring DJ and remix practices. Children therefore experience the interface not simply as an electronic construction but as an instrument for arranging, performing and reshaping musical material.
