The 2nd Panhellenic Scientific Conference with International Participation on Audiovisual and Film Literacy takes place in Chania from 27 to 29 March 2026. Its focus is on understanding, critically approaching, and creating audiovisual texts, as well as on ways such material can be used in educational settings.
On 29 March 2026, a study is presented in collaboration with M. Kokkidou and A. Kondylidou, centred on the Sandy Hook Promise video Evan. The video is examined as a multimodal text, with emphasis on how image, music, language, and other sonic elements jointly shape meaning and influence the reception of school violence as a theme. The study also considers its educational use for developing critical audiovisual literacy, enabling students to recognise not only a media message but also the ways in which that message is constructed.
The analysis directs attention to details that may initially remain peripheral and shows how music and sound contribute to the gradual reconstruction of meaning. Its educational use encourages students to examine the choices made by audiovisual creators critically and to support their own interpretations with evidence from the text.
